Marriage Equality in Acadiana A new Facebook page, vendor list and expo shows support for LGBTQ couples tying the knot.

A new Facebook page, vendor list and expo shows support for LGBTQ couples tying the knot.

Since same-sex marriage became legal in June, couples across Acadiana now have the chance to make a commitment to their partner and take that walk down the aisle. To help facilitate the process, Wedding Officiant Janie Varisco with I Now Pronounce You co-founded a Facebook page less than a year ago titled Acadiana Marriage Equality Wedding Vendors. It’s a place where local vendors — like Bread & Circus Provisions, Root Floral Design and Crystal Weddings — who are happy to work with LGBTQ couples can show their support.

The response has been so overwhelming that Varisco is now working with Magnolia Court to plan an October 25 Marriage Equality Wedding Expo. “People have been waiting a long time, and as a community of wedding ministers, we knew there was going to be a need to have a place where same-sex couples can go to find friendly vendors,” she says. “We want them to know we have people that will work with you.”

Visit www.facebook.com/amewv to access the page, view the full list of vendors and stay up to date on the planned expo.
