National eyes on the I-49 Connector

It can't be a bad thing that national press has taken notice of Lafayette's great freeway drama.

Lafayette may be swimming upstream with the proposed I-49 Connector project, contemplating the construction of an urban freeway when cities across the country are moving away from them. The Atlantic urban studies blog CityLab has taken an interest in the topic, publishing this piece today on the project's central issues.

New York Bureau Chief Eric Jaffe interviewed and quoted several notables around the project and cited work by The IND's own Christiaan Mader. It gives a great overhead view of the CSS process which the Connector's planners are employing to design the freeway, and the pitfalls associated with freeway construction in a urban context.

Take a minute to read about what the project looks like from an outside perspective.
