LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Former state Rep. Brett Geymann, a Republican from Lake Charles, has entered the race for a congressional seat representing southwest Louisiana.
Geymann announced his campaign for the 3rd District seat late Tuesday.
The small business owner left the House earlier this year after three terms, forced out by term limits. In the House, Geymann was a strong critic of the Common Core education standards and pushed for more limits on state government spending.
In his announcement, Geymann said he would represent "strong, principled leadership in Washington."
Geymann joins at least three other GOP contenders vying for the congressional job on the Nov. 8 ballot. The seat, which represents Lake Charles and Lafayette, is being vacated by U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, a Republican running for the U.S. Senate.
