ATC Group buys Sage Environmental Consulting of Austin

Acquisition expands Lafayette company’s air quality consulting service capabilities.

Lafayette-based ATC Group Services announced April 11 that it has acquired Sage Environmental Consulting, an environmental engineering and technical consulting services firm headquartered in Austin, Texas.

ATC is an environmental consulting and industrial hygiene firm owned by a group of investors led by Bernhard Capital Partners, an energy-focused private equity group established in 2013 by Jim Bernhard.

In March ATC Group Services celebrated the return of its corporate headquarters to Lafayette and announced it will hire 50 workers over the next two years. The company’s corporate office is located at 221 Rue de Jean.

Terms of the deal with Sage were not disclosed.

Founded in 1998, Sage has more than 200 employees across 24 offices throughout the U.S. The company provides regulatory compliance, permitting and remediation assistance, as well as a range of environmental programs, including air quality, water quality, hazardous and solid waste, hazardous materials and petroleum storage activities.

Sage, which has been included five times on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the country, will be renamed “Sage ATC Environmental Consulting.” Chairman Steve Probst will continue in his current role, and Sage will remain headquartered in Texas.
