30 bands to play Geronimo Fest

by Nathan Stubbs

Tennessee experimental folk duo Mr. And Mrs. Hazelwood, New Orleans cabaret act the New Orleans Bingo Show and local zydeco favorites Lil’ Nathan & the Zydeco Big Timers are just three acts in a diverse lineup of 30 bands slated to play the inaugural Geronimo Music Festival this Sunday, May 25, in downtown Lafayette. The festival is being held at four downtown venues: Artmosphere, the Blue Moon Saloon, Renaissance, and 307 Downtown. Tickets are $12 for an all-day, all-venue pass, or $7 for a single venue pass and will be sold at booths outside Artmosphere and 307. Shows begin at 1 p.m. and run until midnight. For a complete lineup, visit the festival’s MySpace page.

Promoter Kirby Campbell, who plays drums in the local bands Bird City and Scuba Music, hopes the festival helps showcase some of the region’s up and coming talent. "I guess I just wanted to bring us an outlet for indie rock and rock music,” he says, “kind of like a South by Southwest type of thing.” Campbell says Geronimo will be biannual, with another event scheduled for November.
