Moss Motors added Mercedes-Benz to its line of cars in 1981, two years after the dealership was founded. Local Benz owners and those in the market for a luxury vehicle will soon have a new spot to shop and get service right in the heart of the city. In what Owner Sharon Moss calls a strategic move to Johnston Street, Moss Motors has plans to build a new facility for Mercedes that will rival that of its BMW and Honda showrooms.
“The new facility will be state of the art, contemporary in design and take advantage of the huge traffic count on Johnston,” says Moss. Kirby Pécot has signed on as architect, and the spot will take the place of the current Moss Motors Select.
Moss can't reveal much more about the décor, but invites existing and potential customers to check out her BMW dealership's wall of water, black marble floor and zebra print rug on the showroom floor to get an idea. Customers can also expect the same level of service they receive through BMW with Mercedes' Customer One program, which rolled out last year. Similar to a hotel, an in-store concierge is at the customer's disposal anytime throughout the purchasing process and beyond.
“When people come to visit, they marvel over my dealerships, Moss says. “It's because they have a woman's touch.”
Moss has achieved success in what is still a male-dominated business for more than 25 years, after taking over from her late husband Billy Jack. And it hasn't been an easy ride. Moss Motors' six locations, including three pre-owned sites, and 174 employees have proven her to be both a tenacious and stylish businesswoman.
With her son, Coury, re-entering the business as Mercedes-Benz sales manager, there's never been a better time to visit Moss Motors. “He loves cars and he's very knowledgeable,” she says. “His name's on the sign, and he's my legacy.”
