Boogie Kings rock penultimate DTA

One of the most storied bands in South Louisiana history will brass up Parc Sans Souci Friday night for the second-to-last Downtown Alive! of spring 2016.

One of the most storied bands in South Louisiana history, the Boogie Kings, will brass up Parc Sans Souci Friday night for the second-to-last Downtown Alive! of spring 2016. With a famed brass section and a rotating cast of musicians dating back to the mid-1950s, this Cajun meets swamp pop and blue-eyed soul group never met a party it couldn’t swing.

Friday’s performance comes on the heels of the release of Legacy, a collection of soul covers the band began recording several years but put on moth balls after the death of longtime bandleader and trumpet player Ned Theall. Expect at least eight if not 10 musicians cramming the snug Sans Souci bandshell for this rare performance.

Concession sales begin at 5:30 p.m.; the music rolls from 6-8:30 p.m. Concession sales help keep Downtown Alive! free so please leave the ice chests at home. DTA! closes out next week with a performance in Parc International by zydeco standard bearers Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas.
