Damien Labiche of J.P. Thibodeaux Honda was recently awarded American Honda's distinction of being one of 20 Top Volume sales consultants in the country.

Several faculty members at UL Lafayette were honored with awards. Engineering professors included Fred F. Farshad and Herman H. Rieke, who received the Crown and Eagle Medals of Honor from the North American Chapter of the Russian Academy of Natural Science. The UL Lafayette Foundation honored Dr. Anne B. Broussard, professor of Nursing; Dr. Jack S. D'Amico, professor of Communicative Disorders; and Thomas C. Sammons, professor of Architecture. This year's Outstanding Teacher is Dr. Jeff Sandoz, assistant professor of Education Foundation and Leadership. Dr. Janice G. Weber, an assistant professor of Child and Family Studies, received the Louisiana Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Leaders Award.

Foster parents across the state were honored as part of "National Foster Parents Appreciation Month" in May. Merline Broussard of Ridge was chosen as 2005 Foster Parent of the Year for the Lafayette Region.

SOWELA Technical Community College and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System announced that the H.C. Drew Trust has committed $2.75 million to the college toward the construction of a health sciences and economic development center.
