LSU is the hottest team in baseball with a school and conference record 23 straight wins. Yesterday, LSU topped Southern Miss 11-4 in the championship game of its NCAA regional tournament. LSU will now host UC Irvine in a super regional to be played at Alex Box stadium in Baton Rouge. The series will be the last played in the 71-year-old stadium, which LSU is retiring after this season. The winner advances to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
Game times this weekend, at the mercy of ESPN, are not yet set. LSU has submitted a proposal to start with a 6:30 p.m. Friday game, follwed by a 3 p.m. Saturday contest. A third game, if necessary, is proposed for 1 p.m. Sunday.
