City looks to redevelop Jefferson/Main Street corner

Lafayette Consolidated Government is looking to expedite a major redevelopment along the corner of Jefferson and Main Street in the heart of downtown. Plans are currently in the works to demolish the old federal courthouse building – and possibly two other adjacent city-owned buildings, the old city police office and the Acadiana Open Channel building – to clear the way for a multimillion-dollar mixed-use high rise with both commercial and residential space. City officials are currently shopping for a consultant to help with a Request For Qualifications to send out to potential developers.  Read more about the project, as well as other proposed mix-use buildings that may soon be coming downtown, in the current issue of Acadiana Business .
