Each year Acadiana brides have the chance to check out the latest and greatest local vendors in all things wedding at the The Independent’s Annual Bridal Show at the Cajundome. In 2016, the Rougeaus took home the honeymoon prize with a Caribbean getaway thanks to Uniglobe Associated Travel. This is their story. (And mark your calendars, brides. Our vendors are getting ready now for the 2017 show slated for March 19, 2017 from noon to 4 p.m.)

“We both worked in the service industry for a few years and had an intertwined circle of friends, went to the same places and finally met one magic day,” Jennifer says.

What ensued was a romance that led to a proposal one night at Antoni’s in the fall of 2014.

“I came home to a trail of notes leading me to a fancy new dress saying to be ready for dinner at 7. At the end of the night we had a slice of triple chocolate cheesecake and I knew after the first bite that would be our wedding cake,” Jennifer says.

The day was centered on the couple and their two children because “our little family is our entire world. Everyone there that day was exactly who we needed to be surrounded by as we made our vows.”

Jennifer says they planned the ceremony with a simple intention — keep the atmosphere light and fun, but meaningful and spiritual.

“The weather was perfect and the venue was everything we wanted it to be: urban chic,” Jennifer says of their downtown wedding off of Jefferson Street. “James got his food truck and I got my gold glitter (on everything)! But the best part of the entire event was marrying my best friend and announcing our love and faith of one another to our family before God. I couldn’t take the smile off of my face seeing the true, raw emotion that we experienced together that day.”

The cakes, which were bundt cakes and bundtinis, were by Nothing Bundt Cakes with cake balls and a food truck by Munchies. The kids enjoyed their own table with bubbles, colors and ribbon wands. Jennifer’s cousin, Pastor Jason Miller officiated while Rachelle Moroux did the flowers. Party Central was the event rental vendor and Rebecca LeBlanc did the makeup with Refinery handling hair. The event coordinator was K Parris Events and Natalie Phillips was the couple’s photographer. You can see more photos from the big day here.
