Sometimes it takes a trip to Italy for two Louisiana college students to meet their match. When Sara, a UL student, and Ryan, an LSU student, signed up to study abroad in Florence, neither imagined they would find their future spouse.

And while they now reside in Houston, Sara returned to her roots for a wedding day that included a host of family and friends who had been there all along the way.

They were married at Fatima, where Sara attended school from her first day of kindergarten until the 8th grade.
“Going home and getting married in the church I grew up in with the priest I grew up with was very special to me,” Sara says. “Being back home and the whole day being filled with the closest friends and family and people traveling to be a part of our wedding was very special.”

Sara was given in marriage by her father while wearing a romantic lace gown by Pronovias. The modified A-line gown was made from alencon and guipure lace appliqué — details that added a distinct hint of softness to her classic and timeless look. The gown featured an elegant scalloped edge, chapel length train. She completed her look with a chic off-the-shoulder bolero made from matching alencon lace with an elbow length sleeve.

Sara carried a free form, cascade bouquet of white hydrangea, sweet peas, stephanotis and lizianthus with ivory roses, dusty miller seeded eucalyptus and brunia pods. Entwined in the bouquet was a rosary from her mother. Flowers were by the Gardenaire.

The four-tier cake for her and the chocolate “forever young” cake for the groom were by Kathleen Short.
The reception was held at La Pavillon in Parc Lafayette with Jet 7 rocking the dance floor.

“They put a washboard on me and Ryan had a tambourine and we danced and played with them to ‘Cornbread’,” she says of one of the evening’s most memorable moments.
