Al Lippman funeral set for Friday at noon Longtime Morgan City lawyer who enjoyed a lifetime of close relationships with state politicos from both parties was 78.

Al Lippman, 1938-2016

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Those who knew Al Lippman best will tell you those are the words he lived by. His family describes him as a man who was slow to anger, and quick to forgive. The dapper dresser, who forged lasting relationships with state politicos of all stripes, leaves behind many lifelong friends.

Al Lippman died Oct. 17 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He was 78.

Lippman spent his career as a Morgan City-area lawyer, having retired to Lafayette in recent years with his wife of six decades, Gail Poche Lippman.

A world traveler who fancied exotic and exciting destinations, he most loved his fishing and hunting trips to Plum Bayou, Cocodrie and Pecan Island with family and friends. He relished the thrill of the hunt and the catch. He was also an avid antique collector.

Lippman was a close personal friend to former Louisiana Gov. Mike Foster, having served as master of ceremonies for Foster’s first inauguration in 1996. He also introduced Foster at his second inauguration in 2000. A Republican, Lippman also supported former Gov. Kathleen Blanco, a Democrat.

Along with his wife, survivors include the couple’s three children, Beth Lippman Busbice and her husband Bill, David Lippman and his wife, Angie, and Karen Lippman; his nine grandchildren, Ryan Busbice and his wife, Laura, Matthew Busbice, Sarah Busbice Dickerson and her husband, Jesse, Michelle Lippman Boudreaux and her husband, Josh, Andree Lippman, Kelli Lippman, Michael Lippman, Ashleigh Schneider and William Schneider; five great grandchildren, Emma and Ella Dickerson and Christian, Madeline, Noelle and Chloe Busbice; his brother, Darryl Lippman and his wife, Lynn and his sister, Tanya Murray.

Lippman was born in 1938 in New Orleans. He was a 1956 graduate of St. Stanislaus College Prep, in Bay St. Louis, Miss., and was valedictorian of his class. Lippman earned his undergraduate degree from UL Lafayette in 1960 and his juris doctorate from Tulane University School of Law in 1962 (recipient of full merit/academic scholarship).

Lippman was a senior partner with the Morgan City law firm of Lippman & Mahfouz. He served as a board member of Whitney Bank (2011-14), as an advisory board member for Hancock Bank (2012-14) and on the boards and Executive Committee for Whitney National Bank and Whitney Holding Corp. (1998-2011), along with numerous other business interests, including real estate and investments.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 21, at noon in Martin & Castille’s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette. Visitation is Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service. Rabbi Barry Weinstein and Monsignor Richard Green will conduct the funeral services.
