“Yes, I accept!” Kelley Gauthreaux exclaimed

Thunder, lightning and torrential downpours couldn’t stop the Justice Grillin’ participants and teams. Held in the Town Square in River Ranch, the annual cookoff that raises money for the Southwest Louisiana Multiple Sclerosis Foundation didn’t have its mission and spirit dampened. Despite water up to their ankles and a couple of shaky tents, the dedicated team members cooked on. Among the teams that braved the elements was Van Eaton & Romero; whose jokingly named “Train Wreck Burgers” tasted just fine — as did the fare from The Gachassin Law Firm, dubbed the “I’lLegally Hot Team.” If the storms kept you away, you can still do your part and donate to the SLMSF. The dedicated Justice Grillin’ chefs would be grateful.

Ola, it’s Parte Menina — that’s Portuguese for Party Girl. Last week, your Parte Menina had fantastico fun with the gang from the Krewe of Carnivale en Rio. Riding in the vintage fire trucks of two Rio members, we were on a mission to surprise the newly selected King and Queen. First we pulled up in front of Cyrus and Laurie Champagne’s home and sounded the sirens. We descended on Cyrus with our surprise, and he graciously accepted the bamboo crown and title of King Dom Pedro IV. Next, we trekked on over to the home of Dr. Scott and Kelly Gauthreaux, where the elated Kelly accepted the title of Queen Isabel IV.

In his first act as king, Cyrus declared the party started. The whole entourage of Rio board members, along with past kings and queens and family members in on the surprise, headed south to Larry and Cindy Comeaux’s Boulder Creek home for a poolside party. Welcoming the new monarchs were Rebecca Bernhard and Gayle Milam, Isabels 1 and III. Warren Shepherd and Larry Comeaux, Dom Pedros II and III, chimed in with their kingly advice to the new pair. We toasted Cyrus and Kelly with Caiprinhas all around. Parte Menina can’t wait for the Rio parte grande — the Sambada — in August. That’s when the whole krewe meets its new king and queen and selects by lottery the new Corte Real. Maybe they will let Parte Menina pull the winning names!
