The Leadership Lafayette Alumni Association held its annual meeting and summer social on Wednesday, July 16 at La Fonda Restaurant. Graduates from 20 Leadership Lafayette classes and members from the current Class XXI enjoyed food and fellowship at the social. Additionally, the Leadership Lafayette Alumni Association’s Chairwoman, Angela Morrison, presented Dr. Jay Culotta, Chairman of Lafayette Junior Leadership, with a $1,000 scholarship check for Lafayette Junior Leadership program. Leadership Lafayette is a leadership development program, sponsored by the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, designed to encourage new, energetic and innovative leaders to approach complex community issues with in-depth analysis. The socials aren’t bad either. Party Girl may put in her application for the 2009 class; I heard the chamber still has spots available.
Party Girl attended Visions Art Gallery & Studio’s mid-summer art reception featuring the works of Brittany Montgomery and sculptors J.P. Dumas and Aimee Morvant. Also showing were works by Louise Guidry, Gert Kilchrist, Jane Riviere, Deborah Norsworthy, Norma Thompson and June Aycock. Did you know Brittany Montgomery is the grand-daughter of Fred and Jeannie Daspit and that she had a sell-out show? After realizing that the art was selling like hot-cakes, I had the sudden urge to buy a few pieces of my own. Luckily around the time I was about to purchase another work of art, I realized I was over my budget. I have to keep mad-cash on hand; the tipsy taxi isn’t free. The next artist reception will be Sept. 20, so mark your calendars!
