Funeral services tomorrow for radio's Conrad Maxwell

by Leslie Turk

His name synonymous with local radio, Conrad Maxwell, 56, lost his three-year battle with esophageal cancer early Tuesday morning at his residence in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Maxwell was born in New Orleans and graduated from Jesuit High School. It was while at UL that he developed a love of broadcasting; by the time he graduated, Maxwell was manager of the campus radio station, KRVS, and working part time at KPEL/KTDY. After a decade of on-air work, he moved into radio sales, eventually becoming an owner and general sales manager of KQIS/KBEB. He was still affiliated with both stations at the time of his death.

A rosary will be prayed tonight at 7 p.m. at Martin & Castille Funeral Home, with visitation from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Acadiana or the Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association.
