French jazz at UL

by Mary Tutwiler

Step out of the local music box for a little contemporary French jazz. Moutin Réunion Quartet, an ensemble of twin brothers, drummer Louis and bassist François Moutin, along with pianist Pierre de Bethmann and saxophonist Rick Margitza will be performing tomorrow night at UL.

The globe trotting quartet plays original pieces by the Moutin brothers, who won the prestigious Prix Django Reinhard in 2005. This year, they begin their fall tour here in Lafayette, which will travel to Lincon Center before heading to Europe. To listen to their work, check out their fourth album, Sharp Turns, a 2007 release on Nocturne label. The concert will be on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at 7:30 pm at UL's Angelle Hall. Tickets, are $5 for students and seniors, $10 for the general public and will be sold at the door. For more information, call 482-6012 or visit the UL School of Music website.
