UL suspends two frats

by R. Reese Fuller

UL Lafayette has suspended two of its fraternities, placing them on temporary inactive status until it concludes investigations into the frats' activities. Sigma Alpha Epsilon (Louisiana Alpha chapter) and Phi Beta Sigma (Iota Iota chapter) allegedly violated the university's Code of Student Conduct. No other details were released by the university. In 2005, UL's Sigma Nu fraternity was booted off campus for hazing and has not been reinstated.

In New Orleans yesterday, the district attorney's office announced that it would not pursue criminal charges against seven of ten Pi Kappa Alpha members at Tulane University charged with aggravated second-degree battery for hazing pledges. The Times-Picayune reports that the DA's office won't pursue the charges against all 10 of the members.
