The Krewe of DOOM is hosting a benefit to raise money to improve homes for extremely impoverished families living near Los Chiles, Costa Rica. The benefit will be Sunday, Oct. 19, 6 p.m. at the Blue Moon Saloon and features the Lafayette Rhythm Devils and the ChinaBall Club. All proceeds go toward building materials for housing relief projects.
The people in need are a group of extremely poor Nicaraguans living just inside Costa Rica on the northern border whose housing is essentially composed of scrap materials. All funds raised will be spent on construction materials to improve the roofs, floors, wells and framing of these homes. At the benefit, Krewe of Doom will be selling handmade crafts, original works of art, and materials for projects in their component parts (i.e. a new zinc roof is about $200). Their goal is to raise enough money for all of the component parts of a house.
There will be opportunities to make tax-deductible charitable donations so bring your checkbook Sunday, Oct. 19 to the Blue Moon Saloon. For more info, contact Leigh Anne Sharp at (337) 278-0830. or [email protected].
