In the course of Louisiana’s history, two of its governors have been impeached and two of them have been jailed in federal prison. Authors Walter Greaves Cowan and Jack B. McGuire chronicle the Bayou State’s leaders in Louisiana Governors: Rulers, Rascals, and Reformers beginning with the state’s French and Spanish colonial era to the present. For 40 years, Cowan was a reporter, editor and vice president with The Times-Picayune, and McGuire is the vice president of Union Saving and Loan Association and the author of Uncle Earl Deserved Better. Chinese Laundry’s come up with a perfect ultra high-heeled fall gladiator that you can wear locally well into winter here before your toes get too cold (at which time you could pair it with nude fishnets if you dare). You might want to keep your outfit basic, however, as this braided and woven brown leather sandal, featuring a 4-inch wooden heel and 1-inch platform, is likely to dominate any ensemble. Try it with one of fall’s popular sweater dresses with simple lines, skinny jeans or tulip skirts. It also comes up high on the ankle, complementing fall’s more bohemian styles. Its padded footbed makes it remarkably comfortable, and the leather straps mold to your foot for a nice fit — while a back full zipper and antique eyelets add to its exotic style. Available at Hemline in River Ranch for $119; call 406-1119. — Leslie Turk

Andre Williams is a veteran of Chicago’s vaunted blues scene who’s crossed paths with everyone from Jack White of the White Stripes to Ike Turner to Redd Foxx. Recently, Williams teamed up with some of the Crescent City’s cult icons, enlisting vagabond rockers The New Orleans Hellhounds along with organist and drum machine wizard Quintron. The resulting album, Can You Deal With It? is predictably wild, soulful, sometimes explicit, but always entertaining. Can You Deal With It? can be downloaded on iTunes or ordered for $12 online at — Nathan Stubbs
