Cajuns win in emotional night for Fenroy

by Leslie Turk

Highlights from his four years as a Ragin' Cajun playing on the scoreboard as part of the pre-game senior night ceremony, UL running back Tyrell Fenroy dropped to his knees when he realized what was happening. The Cajun phenom's No. 32 jersey was being officially retired while he was still an active member of the squad. The crowd and Fenroy's teammates went wild, and the fervor continued throughout the night, as UL defeated Middle Tennessee 42-28 and became bowl eligible.

The Cajuns should know by Saturday night if the program gets its first bowl bid in almost four decades. The official matchups will be announced Sunday.

True to form, it was another record-setting night for Fenroy, who became UL’s all-time single-season rushing leader with 1,375 yards, breaking Brian Mitchell’s record for career touchdowns with 48. He also tied Mitchell’s record for single-season touchdowns (19). When quarterback Michael Desormeaux exceeded 1,000 rushing yards for the season, he and Fenroy became only the second QB-RB combo in NCAA history with back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons.
