On Dec. 15, Onebane Law Firm held a Christmas cookie contest to benefit breast cancer awareness. Former Onebane attorney Jennifer Kleinpeter, who now works for the Justice Department in Baton Rouge, took the top prize with her “Everything You Love About Christmas” recipe. Possum Bertrand of Possum’s Restaurant in St. Martinville and Belle Guidry, author of Belle’s Bayou Bounty and Belle’s Country Cooking cookbooks, judged the entries, all of which were packaged up and sold for the benefit — raising $600 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
While members have come and gone over the past 28 years — yes, 28 — this Bonco group is still going strong, gathering monthly to play and try out new local restaurants. Original members Katharine Favaloro, Gale Jordan and Theresa Watts were among the 60 or so family members and friends who gathered at the River Ranch home of Katharine Favaloro for the annual Bonco group Christmas party on Dec. 19. The food was terrific, with Nancy Wild’s shrimp tortellini Party Girl’s favorite dish. Guests sang and danced to the music of local guitarist Charlie Rees.
On Dec. 20 The Independent Weekly Publishing Group celebrated the Christmas season and more than five years back in the local publishing business at the River Ranch home of owners Steve and Cherry Fisher May. As usual the white elephant gift exchange was the highlight of the night (and the last part of the evening Party Girl remembers)
Correction: Party Girl’s apologies to Queen Dana LaBorde and her husband, Tom, as well as to Carla and Manny Gala for my mislabeling of a pic in the Dec. 17 issue — seems I had a bit too much fun (and wine) at the Krewe of Victoria announcement party.
