Advertiser claims another public meeting

by Nathan Stubbs

Bring the tally to four. That’s how many meetings this month have been cancelled by The Daily Advertiser’s failure to publish public notices. Following yesterday’s news that both the Lafayette Public Trust Finance Authority and the Lafayette In a Century Planning Commission meeting were cancelled because of notice failures, The Independent has also learned that the Planning and Zoning Department’s Hearing Examiner meeting was cancelled for the same reason. City officials have been bewildered and frustrated by the cancellations, which are required by state law if proper notice is not published in the daily journal of record. Yesterday, planner Cathie Gilbert said that the Planning Commission notice may not have run because the person she emailed the agenda to apparently no longer works at The Advertiser. The paper has been experiencing dramatic cuts ordered by parent-company Gannett.
