As the proud parents of a Lafayette High Symphonic Band member, we were elated to see your photo essay ("Strike Up the Band," April 6) on the band's recent performance in Carnegie Hall. Philip Gould's wonderful photographs convey the excitement and enthusiasm of the students. Our community should be very proud of these outstanding young ambassadors, their instructors and the school that nourishes their abilities. Lafayette is blessed with several outstanding band programs, but, sadly, their achievements are often glossed over by the local media. Many thanks to The Independent Weekly for helping to tell their story!
