Sephora comes to Mall of Acadiana

by Leslie Turk

Lafayette's first full-fledged Sephora store opens next Friday, March 20, in the Mall of Acadiana. Sephora sells top name-brand makeup, fragrances, bath and body, and hair care products.

A scaled-down version of the popular beauty retailer opened inside JCPenney in the Stirling Lafayette Shopping Center off Louisiana Avenue last August.

The 3,258-square-foot Mall of Acadiana Sephora is taking over the old Bombay spot in the Dillard's wing and has more than 13,000 products from 200 brands. Sephora was the first beauty retailer to incorporate the unique open-sell philosophy, allowing clients to shop a myriad of brands while encouraging them to touch, play, and try everything from lip glosses to blushes and fragrances. The store's offerings include hard-to-find cult makeup lines such as Bare Escentuals, Benefit, MAKE UP FOR EVER and Tarte; innovative skincare lines like Cosmedicine, Philosophy and Bliss and fragrance offerings from Fracas, Marc Jacobs, Pink Sugar, Stella McCartney and YSL. Sephora also has its own collection of makeup, skin care and accessories.

In addition to its retail stores, Sephora is the largest online retailer of prestige beauty products. The company was founded in France in 1969 and acquired by Paris-based LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s leading luxury products group, in 1997. Sephora America operates more than 210 stores in the U.S. and Canada, as well as Sephora.com. Sephora's recent partnerships include HSN, a global multi-channel retailing giant, and JCPenney.

In other tenant news at the mall, Lake Charles-based Acadian Sportsmen opened next to Gap earlier this month. The store offers vintage home decor and gifts suitable for the sportsman, carrying an eclectic mix of antique-style tins, as well as outdoor-themed wall clocks, frames and collectible dishware.
