There's a group of LSU students who run a blog that focuses on the proposed education cuts in the state's budget. SOS - Save Our Schools held a press conference yesterday at the LSU student union in Baton Rouge and issued what it calls a "student response" to the proposed cuts. According to The Advocate, LSU's main campus faces about $35 million in cuts in Gov. Bobby Jindal's proposal to slice $219 million from Louisiana's colleges. If the previous cuts from January are included, the university faces a cut of $45 million.
“Please Gov. Jindal, we are not asking for a bailout,” said LSU senior Parker Wishik, of Ocean Springs, Miss.
Students say they only want the current levels of funding preserved at LSU and other colleges, Wishik said.
Whitney Breaux, a political communications senior from Baton Rouge, said funding higher education is the best way to “stimulate our economy” and eliminate the “out-migration of educated professionals” in Louisiana.
