Funeral set for Dr. Charles Boustany Sr.

Dr. Charles Boustany Sr. died at his home yesterday. He was 79 years old. The son of the late Alfred Frem Boustany, a Lebanese immigrant who opened one of Lafayette’s first general stores, Charles Boustany Sr. also left his mark on the local community. After finishing medical school at LSU, Boustany returned to Lafayette where he opened a family practice on Moss Street, serving thousands of patients over his 40-year career. Boustany also served as Lafayette Parish coroner for 16 years.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Boustany at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. His son, U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany Jr., will deliver the eulogy. Visitation will be held at Martin and Castille Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will continue Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
