Bayou Warehouse bridge repairs under way

by Mary Tutwiler

There’s good news and bad news about the Bayou Warehouse bridge. The good news is that the Department of Transportation and Development is finally getting around to replacing the Lydia-area bridge, which is the direct route from Lafayette to Cypremort Point. The old drawbridge was knocked out by a rogue barge during Hurricane Ike, and anglers bound for The Point have been making an extra 45-minute loop through Glenco for the past seven months.

The bad news is that according to DOTD, the span won’t be open until late July, well into high season at the Vermilion Bay resort (of last resort, now that Holly Beach is gone). That’s only four more months of inconvenience to tolerate, if everything goes according to plan.
