Advocate: suits cost LCG $4.2 million

by Leslie Turk

The Advocate today reports that Lafayette Consolidated Government has paid out about $4.2 million in out-of-court settlements during the past five years. Through a public records request, The Advocate obtained all out-of-court settlements involving payments of more than $10,000 for the last five years. The paper notes that its request was prompted by the city’s recent $350,000 settlement with Rubens Mesa and Julieta Tarazona, owners of Guamas Restaurant in downtown Lafayette.
