Blogging the budget

by Nathan Stubbs

Add Louisiana state government’s Division of Administration to the ever-growing blogosphere. Last week DOA launched a new blog, The Ledger, on its Web site. The Ledger describes itself as “an online chronicle in which fiscal news and information are posted. At a time when Louisiana state government faces significant fiscal challenges, The Ledger offers citizens highlight and insights on up-to-date news regarding state budgetary matters, as well as providing additional facts, figures, context, and clarity concerning important fiscal-related policies and reforms for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of state government.”

The blog’s launch coincides with the run-up to this year's state legislative session, which gets under way today. The budget, and how the state will reconcile a $1.3 billion revenue shortfall, will be the dominant issue in the 45-day session. Gov. Bobby Jindal gives his opening address, to be broadcast live on LPB, at 1 p.m.
