Cox adds 2 family-friendly HD channels

by Leslie Turk

Cox Communications has added two family-oriented high-definition channels to its lineup. On the heels of a recent deal with the Disney-ABC Television Group, Cox added Disney HD (Channel 724) and ABC Family HD (Channel 732) in the Baton Rouge and Acadiana markets. The launches also expand Cox’s extensive On DEMAND library with Disney, Disney XD, ABC Family and Soapnet content. These changes were made with no additional programming charge to customers.

“As fast as we receive approval to launch, and networks create the HD option, our engineering team is making the signals available to our customers,” says Jacqui Vines, senior vice president and general manager for Cox Louisiana.

Disney HD offers the popular Playhouse Disney morning programming for children including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny and Little Einsteins. The afternoon and evening content for tweens and teens includes Hannah Montana, That’s So Raven, Jonas Brothers and Suite Life with Zach and Cody.

ABC Family HD offers family-friendly programming including series, movies, events, and encore presentations from the ABC Network. Hit original shows include Kyle XY, Roommates, Greek and 10 Things I Hate About You.

Cox now offers HD customers 61 channels in the Baton Rouge region and St. Mary Parish and 60 HD channels in Acadiana. The recent changes do not impact customers in the New Orleans area, which recently merged with the Baton Rouge and Lafayette markets.
