KANSAS CITY, TOO

I wonder if [Festival International] organizers will also ban any "Support Our Troops" types of songs as political since such songs take a political stand that supports a war that many Americans oppose ("Don't Play It Again, Sam," May 18, 2005). Or can bands sing about saving forests or wildlife since some people say that is a political stand against big business? Or can we poke fun at such American institutions as Enron or Martha Stewart? Must our songs be limited to love, lost love and singing in the rain? But even that is political. After all, the Bible does not condone remarriage of divorced people, so songs about old and new loves are outright blasphemous ' making them political in today's climate.
