Lafayette businessman Glen Richard dies

by Leslie Turk

The body of 45-year-old Glen Richard, president of Lafayette-based Champion Real Estate Services, was found in the Toledo Bend Reservoir Saturday. Richard, who owns a camp in the area, had been fishing with friends. The cause of death is unknown.

Richard disappeared before noon Friday. His wallet was found at the barge south of Cypress Bend Resort.

An avid outdoorsman, the Lafayette native was a fixture in local commercial real estate since the mid-1980s and had enjoyed tremendous success. In July 1987 he joined New Orleans based Property One Inc., a full-service commercial management, leasing and brokerage company, and helped open its real estate office in Lafayette. He quickly became the company’s top producer, remaining with Property One for 13 years.

Richard ventured on his own in 2001, starting a Lafayette real estate company to oversee the assets he’d acquired over the years and to manage the assets of other clients. He also recently purchased and redeveloped the retail center at Pinhook and James Comeaux roads, attracting a Marriott Residence Inn to anchor the new Marketplace at Pinhook shopping center.

Richard is survived by his wife, the former Debbie Henderson, and two children, Hayley and Blake.
