U.S. Rep. Boustany to address Acadiana's Top 50 Companies

by Leslie Turk

U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany Jr. will be the keynote speaker for Acadiana's Top 50 Privately Held Companies luncheon on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Cajundome Convention Center from 11:45 a.m. - 2 p.m. The list of the area's Top 50 Privately Held Companies will be published in a special cover feature in Acadiana Business on Wednesday, July 29. Presenting sponsors are Allen & Gooch Law Firm and Whitney Bank.

“We are hard-pressed to name a time in our nation’s history when so much critical legislation is under active consideration and development at the federal level as there is today,” says Cherry Fisher May, Acadiana Business’ co-publisher. “Specifically, we’ve asked Congressman Boustany, a retired surgeon, to address the massive changes in health care and their impact on business. He will also discuss changes in regulations and laws governing the financial markets and new federal energy policy and its impact on the oil and gas industry. We believe it will be extremely useful to have our congressman address what is going on in Washington, what his positions are, where he thinks we’re headed and what impact it is going to have on Acadiana’s business community,” she continues. “Given the agenda for the current session of Congress, the timing could not be better.”

The event will feature a sit-down luncheon with a PowerPoint overview of the Top 50 cover story. Acadiana Business, a sister publication of The Independently Weekly, is pleased to announce the launch of this meaningful new event for the area’s business elite. The demanding project is being produced by the same team that published Acadiana’s Top 100 in its heyday.

The project will require exhaustive, persistent research and thorough analysis to identify the companies that, based on annual revenues, are Acadiana’s biggest, locally owned private companies. The list will be presented in a table format that will include key indicators and information for each company that earns a slot in the Top 50. The accompanying story will offer an overview and identify trends based on the research results, providing valuable insight into these local success stories that can’t be found anywhere else. Some bellwether companies will be singled out for profiles.

Top management from each of the Top 50 companies will be invited as guests to the luncheon held in their honor. The cover story will also include a feature on publicly traded companies headquartered in the Acadiana area. Tickets will be available for sale to others who want to attend in honor of their colleagues in business. Tickets are $45 per person or $395 for a reserved table of eight.

To nominate a company, e-mail Leslie Turk at [email protected] and research assistant Tim Lambert at [email protected].
