According to INDsider sources, at least six employees of The Daily Advertiser got their walking papers today as part of parent company Gannett's latest wave of layoffs.
Our sources say two graphic artists, three people in sales and one employee in circulation received pink slips today. In addition, a source tells us three sales people at the Quik Quarter were also let go. All the employees in Opelousas at The Daily World apparently dodged the slim-down.
Gannett announced 1,400 companywide job cuts last week. The McClean, Va.-based media corporation employs about 41,000 people and continues to struggle with declining revenues and rising costs. Owner of flagship daily USA Today, Gannett eliminated 10 percent of its workforce last year. The company operates three other dailies in Louisiana as well as The Times of Acadiana.
