DEFENDING BOUSTANY

As a fellow physician, I was insulted by the "Opinion" cartoon of Sept. 6, 2006 ("Snake Oil"), in which Rep. Charles Boustany was depicted as a foolish satrap (ruler) in Beirut.

My mother was a first generation Lebanese, from immigrant parents. This cartoon mocks Middle Easterners, wrongfully implies that Dr. Boustany has neglected his Louisiana constituency and further confirms the liberal bias of The Independent Weekly. Imagine the uproar if other ethnic groups had been so characterized.

My wife, who is a great Lebanese cook, also shares my feelings.
