2014 Congrès Mondial Acadien announcement this weekend

by Mary Tutwiler

Lafayette’s Francophone community will be gathering at Vermilionville at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 9 to find out whether Acadiana will be the site of the 2014 Congrès Mondial Acadien. The announcement, via skype, will be transmitted live from Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada, where this year’s Congrès is taking place. But no matter whether Louisiana will host the next Congrès. or the descendents of the dispersed Acadians gather in Quebec or northern Maine and southern Nova Scotia in four years, the party at Vermilionville will go on all day, including a table française, food, music, boat tours and artisans.  Entry into Vermilionville is free of charge.

Here’s the video, produced by UL’s Cinematic Arts Workshop, that is part of Louisiana’s bid for the 2014 Congrès Mondial Acadien.
