WOULD THE REAL LAFAYETTE PLEASE STEP FORWARD?

So, Lafayette, La. is more deserving of a proclamation in the U.S. Congress for their celebration of Lafayette's 250th birthday than Fayetteville, N.C.? Seems to me that Fayetteville's distinction of being the first U.S. city named for the Marquis in 1783 and the only namesake city he actually visited trumps your French population. Besides, we got our French the hard way ' most came over as war brides in World War II!

Seriously, we commend the city of Lafayette, La. for their wonderful celebration. No doubt your congressmen will obtain a proclamation too. Dave Domingue at Le Centre International was very helpful and offered some great ideas as we began planning our celebration one year ago. I must say though, the proclamation was not his idea ' that was ours!

Vivé Lafayette!
