FAIR IS FAIR

As a senior marketing student at UL, I feel the university has been hypocritical regarding The Pine Leaf Boys ("The Sound of Silence," April 6). UL prides itself on being the home of the Ragin' Cajuns. UL then humiliates Cajun musicians by having a university police officer approach the band to dismantle it.

If this matter is about rules and procedures concerning the volume of the music, then why doesn't the university do anything about those who drive down Rex Street with music so loud that it rattles their cars? I have had classes adjacent to where The Pine Leaf Boys have played their acoustic music, and I could not hear them from inside the building, but I sure could hear music blaring from passing cars. If this is about rules and regulations, then why did the university police not ask the Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship fraternity to leave campus for playing drums on the corner of Rex and Saint Mary streets at 10:55 a.m. on April 14?

The Pine Leaf Boys are good people and good musicians who are trying to promote a positive culture. Let them play!
