Jindal: Health care debate is over

by Nathan Stubbs

In an op-ed in yesterday's Washington Post, Gov. Bobby Jindal declares national Democrats proposals for health care reform that have been circulating in Washington D.O.A.
"Memo to Washington," Jindal writes. "The debate on health care has moved on. Democratic plans for a government takeover are passé. The people don't want it. Believe the polls, the town halls, the voters...  Washington is the only place in the country that doesn't realize that this debate is over. Democrats may march forward anyway, but they will do so without the people, and at their own peril." Jindal adds it's time for Republicans to "shift gears" and "sieze the mantle of reform and lead."

The column comes on the heels of Jindal's recent call for bipartisanship in an interview with Politico. Jindal told the Beltway Web site, "I think now is the perfect time to pivot and to say, not only here's what we're against, and not only here's how we're going to contrast ourselves, but here's what we're for."

The comments were immediately siezed upon by White House press secretary Robert Gibbs in emphasizing Republicans' steadfast opposition to reform.
