Beaujolais nouveau pops its cork tonight

by Mary Tutwiler

The first wine of the year, French beaujolais nouveau, just bottled after the harvest this fall, makes its official debut today. Every third Thursday of November, the new wine is rushed to market, grabbing attention by arriving by balloon, antique auto or coach and four. Made from gamay grapes, at its best beaujolais nouveau is fresh and fruity. This is wine to be drunk immediately. Tonight, tomorrow, with your Thanksgiving turkey.
