Lafayette’s Chanda Rubin, once the No. 6 women's tennis player in the world, will be swinging her racquet tonight at Baton Rouge’s Pete Maravich Assembly Center for Smash Hits, a World TeamTennis event for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and other AIDS nonprofits. The Advocate reported today that Rubin will join John, former tennis great Billie Jean King, Andy Roddick, Serena Williams, Anna Kournikova, Lindsay Davenport and other big names in tennis.
“It’s crazy the amount of talent you’ll have in the same place,” Rubin, who still resides in Lafayette, told the paper. “These are people that were playing Grand Slams and year-end championships a few weeks ago and now are right here playing in Baton Rouge.”
