The holidays come into full swing this weekend with an all day and into the night event downtown on Saturday, Dec. 12, dubbed “Twas the Light Before Christmas.”

Rudolph Run 5K and Fun Run
Back by popular demand, the 2nd Annual Rudolph Run offers a unique way to spend time with family for the holidays. This year’s run will begin with a new addition, the one mile fun run at 3 p.m., and the 5K will follow at 3:30 p.m. The Cajun Road Runners Club will be on site to facilitate and monitor the race. Participants are invited to enter individually or as a family, and runners are encouraged to get into the holiday spirit by dressing in costume for the race. In addition to awards for best time, entrants can vie for the coveted, best costume award, which includes gift certificates from downtown businesses. Parc Sans Souci, 3:00 p.m.
Parc Sans Souci offers a fun-filled, festive experience with musical performances and a range of holiday activities. Get into the Christmas spirit with crafts by Pottery Alley, ornament creation and decoration by Clayfish Bisque, Wii and Guitar Hero from Game Stop, face painting and telescope viewings of Jupiter and its moons provided by the Lafayette Science Museum. Children of all ages can enjoy free photos with Santa Clause as he takes time out of his busy schedule to visit Downtown. Families will also be invited to step back in time and tour picturesque downtown on horse drawn carriages from 4:30-8 p.m. beginning at Parc Sans Souci. Choral performances by the L.J. Alleman Choir and the Lafayette High School Chorus will begin at 7 p.m. on the Parc Sans Souci stage.

Downtown art galleries display works from local and regional artists, shops and restaurants will all be open for holiday shopping and dining.
