Party like it's 2009

by Dege Legg

Lot of stuff going on New Year's Eve. What to do? Where to go? Why to do it? Figure it out. Here’s the rundown of things to do on the last night of 2009. You’re on your own, so be responsible.

Live Music: Dec. 31

Local Lafayette indie sensation Givers throw a New Year's Eve bash at Artmosphere with The Board. This show will be part celebration and part fundraiser for the band. A good portion of the proceeds from the show will go toward paying for Givers' next studio album. If you like live music, this is as good a reason as any to support the local music scene. There will be two DJs spinning records as well. The cover is $12.

Variety band Shimmur plays Bob’s Pub out on the south side of town.

The Pine Leaf Boys ring in the new year at Cafe Des Amis.

Jamie Bergeron plays at Cowboys.

Geno Delafose & French Rockin Boogie count it down at Vermilionville.

Hubert Maitre plays Randols Cajun Resturant.

For the kids, there will be a daytime Carnival Countdown at the Children’s Museum of Acadiana at noon in downtown Lafayette.

The Viatones play old school rock covers at Blue Moon.

Also, both Sadie’s and Nitetown are throwing big NYE parties.
