ILLEGAL AL FRESCO

It seems to me that our city officials have better things to do than harass downtown business owners in regards to an old state law for "obstructing public passages," that forbids some downtown bars and restaurants from serving patrons at tables on the sidewalk outside their building ("Street Fight," April 20). Our downtown area is thriving, and we forbid people to sit outside in the springtime in front of restaurants and ticket people's vehicles that have any type of advertising depicted? Because of outdated laws?

With two teens ' who tell me of the drug deals being conducted during class time in our Lafayette public high schools ' I can think of better targets for the police to be going after. The drug problem among our youth is out of control, but let's not let people eat al fresco, by any means. Does anyone else find this laughable?
