The fiber initiative is substantiated with rhetoric such as "position Lafayette for powerful economic progress." The argument presented by local media and leaders is that if we don't install fiber now we are being left behind. Private enterprise is portrayed as a roadblock to the future. This could not be further from the truth. I represent the largest company in the world, GE Fanuc, and my business transactions through my company, Infolink USA, are 100 percent via the Information Highway. I have operations in Houston, Dallas, Austin, Little Rock, Memphis and Lafayette. I can say with confidence that we are not "missing out" by waiting for demand to evolve. We need to step back and ask to hear the opposing opinions. Otherwise, we've just been sold the proverbial snake oil.
