At a press conference at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, City Parish President Joey Durel announced today that the city of Lafayette, in conjunction with Festival International and Le Centre International de Lafayette, will host a concert this Saturday to benefit relief efforts in Haiti. The show gets under way at 2 p.m. at Parc Internationale downtown. The admission fee is a minimum donation of $10. Proceeds from the show will be go directly to the American Red Cross, United Way, Southern Development Foundation, Art Creation Foundation For Children and Doctors Without Borders, to help address both immediate and long term needs in Haiti.
"We all know what it's like to experience tragedy and see the world open up its hearts to us following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita," Durel states in a press release. "With our cultural and language ties to Haiti, in addition to having some Haitians living in our community, we felt like this was a good opportunity to reciprocate."
The concert will feature Haitian musician BelO, who takes the stage begining at 7 p.m. The singer songwriter, whose music is described as a blend of reggae, soul and jazz, will perform solo and then sit-in for an all-star jam with Louisiana artists. Here's the full lineup and schedule:
