The spirit of giving is good for the heart

by Mary Tutwiler

Fundraising is a tough job, even in a community as generous as Lafayette. So when Philippe Simon, celebrating 10 years in business in Lafayette, decided to sponsor Hearts of Hope (formerly Stuller Place), a support service for the sexually abused, he knew he needed to find a way to blend the desire to give with a fun-filled event. Fortunately, he had already created the model, his very successful Friday wine tastings at his Ambassador Caffery flagship, Philippe’s Wine Cellar.

On Thursday, Jan. 28, Simon will host an exclusive wine tasting with proceeds going entirely to Hearts of Hope. There will be seven wine suppliers in the store, each sampling four different wines. Participants will have the opportunity to taste such wines as the 2006 Justin Isosceles, 2007 Usseglio Chateauneuf du Pape, 2007 Robert Foley Merlot, 2006 Pride Merlot, 2006 Forman Cabernet Sauvignon, 2006 far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004 Mount Veeder Reserve Cabernet, or even the 1999 Mondavi Reserve Cabernet. Nearly 30 wines will be available along with a cheese selection from St. James Cheese Company from New Orleans.

Tickets are $100 a person. This event is limited to 100 people and tickets are going fast. Contact Hearts of Hope at 269-1557 for tickets and to make a donation.
