‘Who Dat' plate proposed

Two state legislators are proposing bills that would authorize the production of license plates commemorating the New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl championship.

Two state legislators are proposing bills that would authorize the production of license plates commemorating the New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl championship, according to Mike Hasten, The Advertiser's Capitol bureau reporter. Both plate proposals - one by Sen. A.G. Crowe, R-Slidell, the other by Rep. Rickey Hardy, a Lafayette Democrat - would bear the phrase "Who Dat Nation."

However, while Crowe's proposed license plate would be in accordance with licensing agreements with the Saints and the National Football League, Hardy appears ready to embrace the recent controversy over ownership of the phrase "Who Dat." His proposed plate would display "Who Dat Nation" along with an image of the Louisiana Superdome. "The state owns the Superdome and we the people of Louisiana own Who Dat.' It's part of our broken-down language. That's just the way we speak," Hardy tells Hasten.
