According to PAR, PERC's rationale that the merger would simplify the governance structure of Louisiana's universities and colleges is short-sighted.
PAR lists four major concerns with the commission's reasoning for eliminating the Board of Regents:
* The move would concentrate power over higher ed in the office of the governor.
* The remaining two higher-ed management board would be pitted against each other.
* Strategy coordination among two- and four-year colleges would be diluted.
* Attention to Louisiana higher education's most pressing problems would be diminished.
